As my mental health has improved, I’ve enjoyed getting back into my mindfulness consumerism series. With AAPI month upon us, and quickly coming to an end, I took stock of what I needed to purchase and set out to buy replacements from AAPI skincare and beauty brands. I needed face wash, serum, and oil. For beauty, I didn’t exactly *need* much but there were deals and such. I’ll delve into that more below.
I chose to shop through Flip for this haul. Flip is a social shopping platform. In short, the main feed is similar in presentation to short videos on social media platforms. The difference is that these videos are all reviews and demos for products that can be bought through Flip. So, you might be asking, what can be bought through Flip then?
Beauty, Skincare, Home, Haircare, Kitchen, Healthy Food, Gadgets, Wellness, and Oral Care are the current main categories to shop from. So, there’s a lot. There’s countless subcategories and brands therefore it’s not likely you’d not find what you’re looking for.
Of course, I’d love to be friends with you there. I have an “invite a friend” link that’ll get you $30 for signing up. Did I mention you get cash discounts on your order for watching and voting on the videos in the feed? Use it for a cool 30% off your order. With free shipping and free returns. Yeah, deals and such.
Okay, okay, what did I actually buy?
AAPI Skincare & Beauty Haul + Demo
The Haul
I needed an oil cleanser and ended up picking up Pink Moon’s Gemini oil-to-milk cleanser. Pink Moon is an Asian American, woman founded company. The products are created with an AAPI astrologer and are 100% vegan. The brand is partnered with Ecocart and Beam. The cleanser is gentle and fragrance free and does a great job of removing product without drying out my skin. The bottle is glass, which is infinitely recyclable.
A brand on my radar has been Three Ships. They’re a AAPI and woman founded company that’s certified B Corp. Naturally, since I’d run out of face serum, I checked their serum options to see if they had a good fit for me. The mushroom hyaluronic and vitamin C serum is perfect. The packaging is 100% recyclable and the product is non irritating and effective. I enjoy the jelly-like consistency and how it feels on my skin.
I’d also ran out of face oil and had another brand on my radar I wanted to look into. Cocokind is an Asian American woman founded company. The products are cruelty free and they actively pursue sustainability. The facial oil I picked up from them is the organic chia face oil. Chia seed oil is packed with omegas and antioxidants. And it’s the only ingredient in this face oil. No fragrance, no fillers, just skin hydrating oil. It adds the most gorgeous glow beneath makeup and makes my skin feel plump and soft in the morning when I use it before bed.
That’s all I really needed but I’m a sucker for freebies.
The Freebies
There’s a plethora of free products to choose from when the order reaches certain amounts. I chose a couple makeup products from AAPI skincare and beauty brands that I had been wanting to pick up for a while.
The Live Tinted Unity Balm Gloss is a thicker, but not sticky, all over balm for that hydrated glow. It’s ultra pleasant on the lips, skin, cuticles.
Another product was the Tower 28 multi liner. An eco friendly wooden pencil liner for eyes, lips, face. I found it to be ultra creamy and yet still budge resistent.
The last freebie I picked up was the CTZN Cosmetics nudeiversal gloss and lipstick duo in Maldives. The lipstick is pigmented and comfortable on the lips. And the same goes for the gloss.
The Demo
Overall, I’m glad to have had the chance to try out so many products. Between what I wanted to replace in my skincare regimen and the chance to try some new-to-me makeup, it’s been a great experience for a great deal. The brands themselves? So far they stand up to my values and standards. And the fact that they support AAPI Skincare and Beauty is a meaningful bonus.
