I need my home to breathe life into me. Energize me. Comfort me. As phases of life progress, I find I need to make little changes to keep up with the changes of life. Every day I find little ways to make home more enjoyable for us. I love these little updates and I wanted to share them with you.
Making home more enjoyable: the bedroom
A fresh new pillow always brings a spark of joy. I keep many different covers on hand to switch between throughout the year. But I have nothing like the texture of these macramé pillow covers. It’s a welcome change as I’m working on reigniting excitement for this room.
Mixing in new pieces with what I already have just makes things feel fresh. I don’t have to redesign a room with all new things. I can make home more enjoyable slowly. Letting things evolve as our daily routines evolve.
Making home more enjoyable: the kitchen
The room I’ve really been trying to encourage myself to love more is my kitchen. Closed off and lacking natural light, I just don’t want to be in there. I have been feeling more inspired to appreciate my kitchen though. Since watching Honeyjubu, I see there’s value in the tasks done in a kitchen.
A problem I have been needing to solve in where to rest the cooking spoon. I had a ceramic spoon rest but it broke ages ago. Now I have this lovely wooden spoon rest. It will not break and it will make cooking more seamless.
Pretty flour sack towels are both functional and pleasant to look at. I chose a blue mystic set to layer with a yellow shibori set. I can never forget how my grandma likes blue and yellow for the kitchen. So I chose these with her in mind.
I’ve shared a bit about a side project I’m working on in her kitchen here.
They’re a good waste free bathroom hand drying solution too. They’re soft and absorbent. A joy to use and to look at.
Making home more enjoyable: daily tasks
Are you also easily distracted? I am. My mind will switch tasks before I’ve finished one. It means I’m always misplacing my keys. As the refrigerator is centered between our two doors, I’ve been trying to remember to hang them there. A pretty key holder helps me remember. It’s too pretty to ignore.
When I am tired and am hanging on to the last of my willpower to get housework done, it is at least easy on the eyes. There are so many little ways to make home more enjoyable. Check out folkulture’s Amazon store for inspiration for your home.
