Black history month is a welcome reminder in being more intentional with my support of black owned businesses. Many retailers have started creating a dedicated section. I love this and have been spending countless hours discovering new favorites. Target’s black owned businesses have given me so many new brands to check out. I’ve narrowed down the choices to a must try asap list.
This is a very small collection of what you can find on Target’s black owned businesses section. There are things that are important to me and things that I already have holy grails for and things that are simply not available in my area. That said, if cruelty free/vegan/fair trade/fragrance free/low waste/do good products and companies are important to you, then you’ll likely appreciate this list.
Target’s Black Owned Businesses
Candles
It’s not often that I burn a candle but when I do, I want to support a good company and smell a drool worthy scent. I gravitate towards musky/cologne/woody scents but each of the brands have a scent for everything preference.
5oz King Candle – Satya + Sage
Scent of the Perfect Man Candle – Love Cork Screw
8oz Glass Jar Moroccan Summer Candle – Freres Branchiaux
Games
I love that laid back games take hanging out with friends to the next level. Sometimes I’m just too tired to think of something to say or do and a game does all the work for me. These simple games require nothing more than a good attitude and will definitely end up in my collection.
Coffee
Start your day with coffee? Fuel yourself through the day with it? While I don’t drink it often myself, I like to have it on hand for when I do or when I have company. Even better is to have supported companies that are putting money back into the pockets of the black community.
BLK & Bold Rise & GRND Bend, Medium Roast Ground 12oz
Portrait Coffee Founders Medium Roast Ground Coffee – 12oz
Bean Fruit Colombian Light Roast Ground Coffee – 12oz
Chicago French Press Coconut Crème Medium Roast Coffee – 8oz
Tea
Now tea? Tea is something I do drink often. Years ago I switched to loose leaf tea to reduce the waste of tea bags. These two brands not only have loose leaf but the blends I’ve chosen look delicious. I keep fruity teas on hand always because my non tea loving friends enjoyt them.
Heritage Tea Illmatic Wellness Loose Leaf Tea – 1.5oz
Pennie’s Tea Tropical Bliss Loose Leaf Tea – 2oz
Haircare
I am disrespectful to my hair, but I do want to change that. I have dry, thick, coarse hair with obnoxious flyaways. In my search for products that will help me attain my hair goals, I found these ones.
Curl Theory Hair Gel Styler – 12 fl oz
Alikay Naturals Essential 17 Hair Growth Oil – 8oz
Mixed Chicks Paddle Hair Brush
Alaffia Beautiful Curls Chebe Powder Deep Conditioning Mask – 8 fl oz
Sassy Hair Cap Long Satin Cap with Snap Clasp – Pink
Beauty
My favorite category. One I’ve spend too much money on over the years. One I’m constantly refining my holy grails to find the best balance of anti aging/moisturizing/non irritating/vegan/cruelty free I can find.
Black-Owned or Founded Beauty Beauty Sample Box Gift Set – Target Beauty Capsule – 7ct
SheaMoisture Cannabis & Witch Hazel Skin Rescue Moisturizer – 2oz
Undefined R&R Day Serum – 1 fl oz
Undefined R&R Night Serum – 1 fl oz
Jacq’s Revitalizing Facial Toner – 2 fl oz
Jacq’s Probiotic Face Mask – 2 fl oz
Bath & Body
I’m working on using up some products I already have. When they need replacing, I’m excited to try these out. Richly hydrating, clean ingredients are what I need for my sensitive skin. And I guess if there’s got to be fragranced deodorant in the house, the AOS brand is one I can get behind.
SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Bar Soap – 8oz
The Honey Pot Organic Water Based Personal Lube – Agave – 2 fl oz
Alaffia EveryDay Shea Body Lotion – Unscented – 16 fl oz
SheaMoisture Unscented Multi-Purpose Baby Balm with Oat Milk & Rice Water – 3.5oz
Alaffia EveryDay Shea Bubble Bath – Lavender – 32 fl oz
The Honey Pot Bath Bomb – Lavender – 10.4oz
Art of Sport Victory Men’s Deodorant – 2.7oz
Appliances
Okay I’m going to get real excited about these. I freaking love cute appliances. I drool for the Smeg ones and I love a clean and/or retro look. That griddle is on it’s way. And I’m struggling not to replace my perfectly find air fryer with this one. And might as well get the coffee maker too while I’m at it. The coordination is everything.
2-in-1 Smokeless Indoor Ceramic Nonstick Grill & Griddle
G 14 Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Customizable Brew Strength
6 Slice Digital 10-in-1 Toaster Oven with Air Fry
Munchies
There’s not a lot to say about food. I love tasty food and love going out. But alas, I am not rich and have to eat food at home. That’s not so much a complaint when these are in the panty.
Partake Gluten Free Vegan Lemon Cookies – 5.5oz
Michele’s Syrup Maple Creme – 13oz
Yolélé Fonio Ancient Grain – 10oz
Party
I don’t drink but I am already planning a mimosa party with this kit and bubbly. The concept of party kits has usually been centered around kid’s birthday parties. It’s innovative to bring that to the adult world. We have enough to worry about as adults, this is the kind of fun we need.
Black Girl Magic Sparkling Brut White Wine – 750ml Bottle
Household
As a homebody, I’m most excited about anything home. I’ve known Justina’s brand for years now. And I’m familiar with Reel. I didn’t know they were black owned though. It’s overdue to see black owned and founded businesses represented alongside home good giants.
Standard Soleil Sham Pair – Jungalow by Justina Blakeney
Reel Tree-Free Toilet Paper – 12 Rolls
Lined Spiral Journal Manifest Your Dreams – Be Rooted
Hypnotic Shower Curtain Blue – Jungalow by Justina Blakeney
Clothing
Black owned fashion brands are for everyone to support. I love to see androgynous choices too. I’m fixing to be hella comfortable with these.
Jolie Noire Black History Month Gender Inclusive Mid-Rise Shorts – Cream Floral
Black History Month Adult Unisex Fist Short Sleeve Graphic T-Shirt – Cream
Men’s Jogger Lounge Pajama Pants
I’ve got a lot of shopping to do. And I hope you do too. Consumerism is full of choices and a vote with a dollar for good matters. Communities that have been suppressed and worse need intentional support to level the playing field that is life.
