For the past few years, I’ve wanted to start the year with a list of home projects. These are projects I want to accomplish in the upcoming year. However, something always distracts me, and I end up not following through. Things have been going smoothly for the past six months, and I believe I’m finally ready to do this. My year of 25 projects list includes home maintenance, home repairs, home upgrades, and home decorating projects.
My Year of 25 Projects for 2025
Bathroom
To begin with, I’m embarrassed to admit that I have been neglecting a significant problem for too long. I understand that any combination of water and a home’s structure can cause serious issues. Therefore, it is a high priority for me to tackle these relatively simple tasks promptly.
1) Repair crumbling grout along top of tub
2) Caulk along floor along tub and around toilet alcove (I’m leaning towards a product like this)
Garage
Our garage is currently a great overall space. However, it needs a few improvements to be more functional for us. It primarily serves as a storage area. It also functions as our laundry room, a second toilet, a workshop, and a home for our barn kitty. Once we complete these projects, we can focus on enhancing the visual appeal of the space.
3) Replace garage light (not sure if I want to go with a flood light or a farmhouse light)
4) Hang salvaged door in garage
5) Fix garage toilet
6) Complete garage door fence insert for dogs
Bedroom
Fortunately, there isn’t much work left to do in the bedrooms. Apart from two significant issues, they are serving their purpose just fine. In my bedroom, a live wire is preventing the installation of the overhead light. In the kid’s bedroom, the door has been in the middle of refinishing for a bit too long.
7) Repair Bedroom Overhead light
8) Strip, repaint, replace hardware bedroom door
Kitchen
My dream is to gut the space and be done with it. It’s so dark and drab. I don’t want to be in there. That reluctance makes it hard to do things I want and need to do. In the meantime, lighting will help a lot, as will a functioning ice maker and a useful pantry door.
9) Repaint, replace hardware and add storage to pantry door
10) Attach water line from fridge to under sink
11) Install better lighting in kitchen
Dining Room
I could’ve ignored this project forever. However, I accidentally spilled polycrylic on it a couple of years ago. It’s been gross ever since. Taking inspiration from the internet, stripping the painted top and leaving the legs painted will solve that.
12) Refinish Dining table top
Outdoor
In my journey to improve my mental health, I’ve been making an effort to spend more time outdoors. Unfortunately, this has made it clear that there are several things that need attention in my backyard. The dogs have caused quite a bit of damage. Since we invested in a high-quality fence, we want to ensure it lasts as long as possible. Additionally, safety is a concern due to the poor lighting in our yard. Our house numbers keep falling off, and I also need a space for my interest in edible native plant gardening.
13) Dusk to Dawn outdoor lighting for backyard and driveway
14) Seal fence
15) Fill in holes from dogs
16) Put in anti-dig wire along fence
17) Hang new house numbers
18) Edible front yard garden beds
General
Finally, there are some necessary repairs throughout the house. I might not be aware of one or two serious issues, as they haven’t been addressed or investigated yet. I plan to start with smaller repairs and gradually tackle the larger ones.
19) Replace broken window glass panes
20) Investigate floor register that’s not blowing
21) Install Pet Door
22) Unstick painted shut windows
23) Replace broken window screens
24) Install solar attic fan
25) Replace missing outlet/switch covers
So, here we go. It should be a productive year. Narrowing and growing a list of projects for a “Year of 25 Projects” helped me hone in on what would make the biggest and best impact on daily living.
